Dear Chapter Members,
Announced by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) in partnership with the Executive Office of the Mayor (EOM), Department of General Services (DGS) and the Office of the City Administrator (OCA).
The AfH / AIA grant program deadline is May 14th and we need your help! Our task is to write a proposal for a disaster management plan for the DC area. Piece o' cake, right? It's worth a shot - the winning Chapter gets up to 2000 dollars to help execute the plan. And we ESPECIALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU'RE A MEMBER OF A LOCAL AIA CHAPTER! (Please pardon the shout.) Strategy meeting will likely happen middle of next week.
If you'd like to help with this, email Matt Johnston at mattj@afh-dc.org
Do you have an interest in teaching young people about the built environment? AfH DC is teaming up with Wise Young Builders this May to engage in an unique enrichment program that helps kids, ages 8-12, sharpen their critical thinking skills through the use of math and construction. Three volunteers are needed either 1 or both Sundays, May 13th and May 20th from 3:30-4:30. The session will teach kids about working and engaging with their community, and in the process, learning about scale and fractions. As a final project the kids will construct a neighborhood map.
The DC Box Collective, Wangari Gardens and Tumbleweed Tiny Houses, bring you ‘Repurposing Space’, a showcase of three ways local organizations are working to reuse vacant or underutilized land in the District. The event will now take place only on Sunday, April 15 and not on Saturday, April14 as was earlier announced.

Hello AfH DC-
We had a great Core meeting last Wednesday at Gordon Biersch. A little noisy, but it made for a fun and productive time. We had several new or returning Members join us: big welcome to Quynn, Ashley, Taylor, Lizzie, and Lindsay. If you're interested, check out the attached meeting minutes and please feel free to contact me with questions or feedback. Next Core Meeting will likely be in mid-January.
Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays!
Matt J.
